This 3D program is used by our famous artist frodrigo to create the 3D models in OpenCity ;) It's simple and easy to play with. However, it isn't free but you can download a trial version from the site.

Blender is the popular 3D modelling, redering, and animating tool. You can download it for free at the official homepage. Blender can also export/import models in a lot of formats. Give it a try !

Crystal Space is a free (LGPL) and portable 3D Game Development Kit written in C++. It supports: true six degrees of freedom, colored lighting, lightmapped and stencil based lighting, shader support (CG, vertex programs, fragment programs, ...), mipmapping, portals, mirrors, alpha transparency, etc... Check it or I'll kick your ass !
